Ingredients 

Main Ingredients

  • 1 lb Shrimp, peeled and deveined
  • 1 lb Crabmeat
  • 1 cup Onion, chopped
  • 1 cup Celery, chopped
  • 1 cup Green bell pepper, chopped
  • 3 cloves Garlic, minced
  • ½ cup Vegetable oil
  • ½ cup All-purpose flour
  • 4 cups Chicken broth
  • 2 cups Okra, sliced
  • 2 teaspoon File powder
  • to taste Salt and pepper

Instructions 

  1. 1. Heat the oil in a large pot over medium heat. Stir in the flour to make a roux, and cook until it turns a deep brown color.
  2. 2. Add the onions, celery, bell pepper, and garlic. Cook until the vegetables are tender.
  3. 3. Gradually stir in the chicken broth. Bring to a boil, then reduce heat and simmer for 30 minutes.
  4. 4. Add the shrimp, crabmeat, and okra. Simmer for another 20 minutes.
  5. 5. Stir in the file powder and season with salt and pepper to taste. Serve hot.
